The West End production of Everybody's Talking About Jamie will be broadcast live in cinemas this summer.

Nimax Theatres and More2Screen will collaborate on the venture, which sees the show screened in venues across the UK on 5 July, with a worldwide roll-out of the recorded show to be distributed in autumn. Earlier this year, the show won Best New Musical and two awards for leads John McCrea and Lucie Shorthouse at the WhatsOnStage Awards.

Written by Tom MacRae with music by Dan Gillespie Sells and direction by Jonathan Butterell, the musical is based on the real-life documentary entitled Jamie: Drag Queen at 16. It stars McCrea and Shorthouse alongside Josie Walker, Mina Anwar, Tamsin Carroll and Phil Nichol. The show has design by Anne Fleischle, choreography by Kate Prince, lighting design by Lucy Carter, sound design by Paul Groothuis, video design by Luke Halls and musical direction by Theo Jamieson.

The musical originally opened at Sheffield Crucible before transferring into the West End last autumn. In her five-star review of the show's West End production, Daisy Bowie-Sell said that the musical is "a dynamic, deliciously entertaining night out, a glorious tribute to what makes us human and a heart-warming appeal for acceptance."

Tickets go on sale today for the screenings, with the film's certification to be announced.
